Dante participated in his first Pinewood Derby in January. We both learned a lot about designing and building Pinewood Derby cars. It was kind of stressful for both of us but he had one of the faster cars in the pack.Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442433177006330053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-71009667576607294582014-03-25T15:28:00.002-06:002014-03-25T15:28:39.763-06:00Mechanical Keyboard FunI purchased a mechanical keyboard for home and work and I've been having fun with them. I prefer the feel of the mechanical switches over the typical rubber dome contacts that are included in most cheapo keyboards that most people use. Recently I also purchased a "grab bag" of keycaps that fit on the switches that my keyboards use so I could customize the look of my keyboards. Here are some pictures of them.<br />

Juliet is 11 months old now. She is trying her best to walk, but only will take one or two steps before she sits down again. She has great balance and will stand up without holding on to anything. She also is a climber and can get on the couches and chairs and climbs from one couch to the other. It is a little bit nerve wracking when she tries to go over large spaces between them. She likes to jump on the couches and chairs too, so we watch her very carefully. She can go up and down stairs now too. She really is a joy to have around. Most of the time she is so happy and joyful. She love love loves her siblings and daddy and can't wait for them to get home from school and work. She imitates sounds she hears, like daddy snoring, water being poured into the tub, other ones I can't think of now. John and I don't remember any of the other kids doing this. She isn't as coherently verbal as the other kids when they were her age, but she does say dada, mama, something like hi, I think she has a name for Echo that sounds like go, and probably some others as well. She babbles all the time. She will also sing with me (I wonder if it is related to the imitating?). She has started to "read" books now instead of just eating them. We had some blood work done on her to figure out allergies, and she is supposedly ok with milk, but we found out she has problems with wheat. I read that babies can outgrow wheat allergy, but I'm not sure how long we will have to keep it away from her. So for now, no wheat. She does not like pickles. We tried to give her one to chew on tonight, and she kept pushing it away, or throwing it down, I don't think she ever even put it in her mouth. She loves to munch on celery though. She still only has her bottom two teeth, the top two are trying to cut, but they are being so stubborn. I can't believe a year has almost gone by, it has been hard and worthwhile.

Juliet climbed in the bucket herself and was so proud. She couldn't get out by herself though.

It has been great getting to spend these years with John and our kids. Love you!
It's also Juliet's eight month anniversary too! She has been progressing so fast lately. It seems like in just the last few months she has gone from barely being able to sit up without falling over to now almost a full crawl. She can get back up to sitting when on her stomach, doesn't mind being on her tummy for long periods, can pull herself up to standing pretty much on her own. She is still really unstable balance- wise though. She says mamama like a pro and is adding more sounds like dada and baba. Dante can make her laugh the best, she likes it when he startles her by popping up out of nowhere and making silly noises, but she loves everyone and will sometimes cry when one of the girls leaves the room. She is a terrible sleeper, but the last 3 nights she has slept in her own bed for 4 1/2, 5 1/2, and 7 hours! I'm hoping she keeps it up. She still only naps in my arms and always wakes right up if I try to lay her down in the day. She has been known to sleep in the car and will sometimes transfer to the stroller and stay asleep. She also can scream in the car for 20 minutes before she crashes if it is too late and she wants mom. She has her two bottom teeth and is probably teething again, I'm trying to get her to stop biting me when she is done eating (OUCH). She loves the cat and tries to grab her, so we need to be really careful around her. She is super fast grabbing stuff, when I have held up beans or sweet potato fries for her to eat, she rips them out if my hands so fast and right into her mouth. She is really starting to love playing in water when bathing or swimming, it took her a long time to get there. She loves splashing now and has fun.
She is most likely going to miss the kids when they start school next week (me too).
We have had a pretty fun laid back summer this year. It has now gone by too fast. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Juliet came home from the hospital on the 1st and everyone was really excited about that. The kids got to see and hold Juliet for the first time.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbKWZ8-dIHzHYuePVWl4aYOj_NDiRRWXQ4-KzjWlp0cgS_i-sP0qL1aE3GyBrbCAX0V9kNujVX7HKEl2g1vLTTh3yKfdZNo2Gw1rQgrejUgIaBl5icE1DXJ3Tx7jhyn7qxTRh6/s1600/siblings1-1-12.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbKWZ8-dIHzHYuePVWl4aYOj_NDiRRWXQ4-KzjWlp0cgS_i-sP0qL1aE3GyBrbCAX0V9kNujVX7HKEl2g1vLTTh3yKfdZNo2Gw1rQgrejUgIaBl5icE1DXJ3Tx7jhyn7qxTRh6/s320/siblings1-1-12.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5715398668882883746" /></a><br /><br />My mom came to help us for a few weeks, and I am so glad she was able to come. I can't get too wordy typing one handed, so I'll just keep it brief. Juliet Dorothy Massaglia was born on December 13, 2011. She was 7lbs 5oz., and 19" long. We had a traumatic birth where I had a placental abruption and Juliet inhaled and swallowed blood filled amniotic fluid. She was in the NICU until January 1st, 2012, where she was on antibiotics, and healed slowly. Blood apparently takes a long time for the body to break down, and the lungs are not a good place for blood to be. <br /><br />These 3 photos were taken on 12-13-11<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifvi5YG3Gf2rMY_skFgtYWcK02UiPcgVyW3nznYEJFSrwBWO2ON2pNvS6uUQuJxu1VHfz0FKWDcRj7mDlOnN7IRm47ssA7D4HpEouQI4_5uPnGGHwTH6NRmASyyJQMSm-ZNgh4/s1600/IMG_0025.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifvi5YG3Gf2rMY_skFgtYWcK02UiPcgVyW3nznYEJFSrwBWO2ON2pNvS6uUQuJxu1VHfz0FKWDcRj7mDlOnN7IRm47ssA7D4HpEouQI4_5uPnGGHwTH6NRmASyyJQMSm-ZNgh4/s320/IMG_0025.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5715035899377755506" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwetJYGA9qvzNnchvqYKOjdVltBVtD6SvnxrRDa4BIEJoXfDHwBnaZUoECgM39xGZQqomI_IQTD6xHeyTRmX3hE0mY1RxEdfS3reFpSLfhmq1YqQcdOczdFGjGFlplG3XCQFNm/s1600/IMG_0016.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwetJYGA9qvzNnchvqYKOjdVltBVtD6SvnxrRDa4BIEJoXfDHwBnaZUoECgM39xGZQqomI_IQTD6xHeyTRmX3hE0mY1RxEdfS3reFpSLfhmq1YqQcdOczdFGjGFlplG3XCQFNm/s320/IMG_0016.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5715035894747861970" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhniSyS9qDjYkdrfvfj_4p7ZI-gnRimij9GS8iKCXJBJXgVXT7TMg0AtQQaRtQ5uO1ZgsTQfto7EzsX7uID9aZpAoJFQnRs69a58TKW0PmVs2BpiY99vm3dXgsN59VGiMYeIHlz/s1600/IMG_0013.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhniSyS9qDjYkdrfvfj_4p7ZI-gnRimij9GS8iKCXJBJXgVXT7TMg0AtQQaRtQ5uO1ZgsTQfto7EzsX7uID9aZpAoJFQnRs69a58TKW0PmVs2BpiY99vm3dXgsN59VGiMYeIHlz/s320/IMG_0013.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5715035884312796130" /></a><br /><br /><br />12-14-11 This day was the first for us to hold her. My parents were able to come watch it also. The kids all did great. The weather wasn't too bad either. Usually it's sweltering hot, but it's been kind of cold and rainy for May.<div><br /></div><div>We used a new video camera for these. It's a little Xacti camera that records directly to an sdcard so it's tons easier to get the videos on the computer. It was pretty cheap on Woot a few weeks ago. Hopefully we will be able to upload more videos now that the process isn't so involved.<br /><br /><br /><iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Jh4pGEuedz8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><br /><br /><br /><iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uFngf4i0J7o" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe><br /><br /><br /><iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/USxBfx46Uh8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442433177006330053noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-41198303614490921332011-04-05T14:15:00.002-06:002011-04-05T15:01:43.400-06:00FHE at TrafalgaA week or so ago we saw a great deal at GroupOn for a year pass to Seven Peaks, the Trafalga parks, Orem Owlz baseball games, and Utah Flash basketball games. After a little deliberation, I ended up buying them and we picked our passes up at Seven Peaks yesterday. After we picked them up, we grabbed a cheap pizza and then went to Trafalga to ride the slick track go-karts and do some miniature golfing. The kids had a ball riding the go-karts. None of them had ridden them before. Valerie and Scarlett got to ride their own and the other two had to pair up with us. I got some fun pictures of Becky and the girls, but I didn't take any pictures of us boys since I was driving. We ended up playing golf in the indoor course because it was a little cold outside and our kids hadn't dressed for it. The indoor course is pretty cool since they have added all the black lights and neon paint.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/5593331140/" title="IMAG0018 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5104/5593331140_c3b7418ea4_z.jpg" width="640" height="383" alt="IMAG0018"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/5593331146/" title="IMAG0020 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5224/5593331146_5869d9e41a_z.jpg" width="640" height="383" alt="IMAG0020"></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/5593331156/" title="IMAG0021 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5221/5593331156_0c0a1b2551_z.jpg" width="640" height="383" alt="IMAG0021"></a><br /><br /><iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/RFWoO7i6raQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442433177006330053noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-90831698361375186232011-02-26T10:10:00.001-07:002011-02-26T10:10:32.164-07:00Lost His First Tooth<div style="float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/5478841159/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5059/5478841159_0c5b617bfd_m.jpg" alt="" style="border: solid 2px #000000;" /></a><br /><span style="font-size: 0.9em; margin-top: 0px;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/5478841159/">Lost His First Tooth</a><br />Originally uploaded by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/mrklaw/">mrklaw</a></span></div>Dante had a loose tooth yesterday and was completely beside himself with excitement. Well, I finally found some chairs. In July, we were yard sale shopping and I found a set of 4 chairs with an alder table all together. I didn't need the table, but thought I could refinish the top and maybe sell it or something (the top was really needing to be refinished, it was scratched, drawn on with permanent marker, etc...). I guess that the table grew on me, because now it is in our kitchen! First we sanded the top and re-stained it. Then I took a break from the table and painted the 4 chairs. We have been using the chairs for about a month. I finally decided to finish the table, so in the last 2 weeks, I have been priming, painting, and sealing the table legs. I finally finished, and now we have a fantastic new kitchen table! I'm so happy with how it turned out. The table is stained with a mahogany stain, and the chairs and legs of the table are painted green (obviously) with a glaze over to antique them. I love it. We forgot to take before pictures but the table top was only polyurethaned and the legs were red. The chairs had a natural wood seat, the rest painted red. They actually didn't look bad, but I liked the green better. Becky had fun with her mom who visited with us for a few days.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/4660609608/" title="IMAG0224 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4071/4660609608_ca329764d4.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="IMAG0224" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/4659987917/" title="IMAG0226 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4048/4659987917_55c6c36b1e.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="IMAG0226" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/4659988037/" title="IMAG0227 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4659988037_c188425316.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="IMAG0227" /></a>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442433177006330053noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-60821012741520180472010-03-17T19:55:00.001-06:002010-03-17T19:57:11.757-06:00Cherry Hill Competes at Amateur DanceSport Competition<p><br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dzUukh8BiFQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dzUukh8BiFQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br /></p><br /><p><br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ENYsXGGNf0s&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ENYsXGGNf0s&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br /></p>Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00812748336965027099noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-18013088053235261782010-02-02T10:03:00.001-07:002010-02-02T10:03:12.032-07:00Haircut at Home<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><p><object height='350' width='425'><param value='http://youtube.com/v/zUZm27w9hao' name='movie'/><embed height='350' width='425' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' src='http://youtube.com/v/zUZm27w9hao'/></object></p><p>Becky's mom gave Dante a haircut while we were at New Beginnings with Valerie.</p></div>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442433177006330053noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-89165136424228966732010-01-01T14:11:00.002-07:002010-01-01T14:13:38.010-07:00SleddingI got home early yesterday afternoon so we all decided to go sledding. I'll post some stuff about those things later when I have access to our iPhoto library at home.<br /><br />This weekend I got to go back to California to celebrate my grandfather's 90th birthday. My parents and my sisters were all able to be there. It was cool to see everyone together. We haven't been all together for years.<br /><br />We arrived at LAX on Friday and after a quick meal at In and Out we decided to visit Redondo Beach and see the old house and the neighborhood. The house was under some heavy renovation and remodeling. The park was much different that what I remembered also.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3910074381/" title="My old house by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3452/3910074381_1a7d97c485_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="My old house" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3912269279/" title="The park next door by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2588/3912269279_df5e9121c5_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="The park next door" /></a><br /><br />After looking at the house, we went down by the Pier. There weren't many people on the beach since it wasn't very hot and it was a school day. The beach seemed much smaller and steeper than I remember. Our family has fond memories of riding bikes or roller skating on the strand along the beach for Family Night.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3923029025/" title="Redondo Beach Pier by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2619/3923029025_4ab1f94ece.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Redondo Beach Pier" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3923821052/" title="Redondo Beach looking south by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2652/3923821052_2e8a08239b_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Redondo Beach looking south" /></a><br /><br />That evening, we had dinner with my grandparents and prepared some stuff for the party.<br /><br />On Saturday, we had the party. It was fun to see cousins, friends and family and hear their stories. I got to hear a few WWII stories. We took a ton of pictures too.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3912334887/" title="Getting ready for the party by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3463/3912334887_d1857295b9_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Getting ready for the party" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3913217716/" title="Family picture by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2502/3913217716_3b7a12fd25_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Family picture" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3913224254/" title="Mom and Aunt Gail by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3533/3913224254_e41669596c_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Mom and Aunt Gail" /></a> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3912475155/" title="Mom and Sharon by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2511/3912475155_7528513229_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Mom and Sharon" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3912603305/" title="Mom and Grandpa by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3519/3912603305_44412ef609_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Mom and Grandpa" /></a><br /><br /><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2Vbd0SOJFzw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2Vbd0SOJFzw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><br /><br />That night we went to a Mexican restaurant and tried playing a game, but everyone was too tired. We ended up playing "Bohnanza" and "Hit The Deck" on Sunday night. We also got to go to church with my grandparents and visit Aunt Bertie and her daughter Nancy.<br /><br />It was a fun trip. I overslept a little more than I wanted so we didn't see the balloons take off, but it was still a lot of fun. The balloons would go up or down to catch breezes in different directions and they would try to come back to the field where they started so that they could drop bean bags onto targets or pop helium balloons that were tied to long strings. Once in a while they would fly right over our heads and they came close enough that we could easily see the people in the baskets and hear the roar of the flames as they heated up the air in their balloons.<br /><br />On the way home we stopped by Macey's grocery store to get some supplies and they were giving away free french toast and doing demonstrations with mentos and diet coke.<br /><br />During the day I dismantled our gazebo that had been severely damaged by the snow. It took a while, but it's mostly completely in little pieces now. All I needed was a screwdriver. Hopefully next week I can take all the aluminum from it to the recycling center and get a few dollars.<br /><br />That night we all drove down to Provo High's soccer field and watched the Stadium of Fire fireworks. We had to wait a little while, but we had brought some books to read and glow sticks for the kids. A bunch of other people there had brought store-bought fireworks and it was fun to watch them light them off. The fireworks finally started and we had a good view of them from where we sat. There was a long gap in the middle where everyone was confused about whether the show was over or not. My friends later told me that they were retiring an old flag in the middle of the fireworks show. It was a nice show and when it was over, it was really easy to get home. We had barely any traffic at all. MUCH better than trying to drive home from over by the Provo temple.Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442433177006330053noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-79495320320661741852009-07-11T18:42:00.003-06:002009-07-11T19:09:59.134-06:00We Made Flubber!Wow, we haven't posted for a while. I'll try to post a few this weekend to catch up.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3691066848/" title="IMG_2899 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2369/3691066848_9478acc889_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="IMG_2899" /></a>I had the day off on July 3rd and I decided to do a craft or something with the kids since I don't get a chance every day. I'm usually so busy on weekends that we never get the chance.<br /><br />I remembered that when we were Cub Scout den leaders, we did an activity where we made some kind of slime with white glue and borax. I did a Google search for white glue and borax and found a bunch of recipes online for GAK or Slime or Play Putty or Flubber. I picked one out and it went something like this:<br /><br />GAK<br /><br />Ingredients:<br />8oz white glue<br />Warm water<br />Borax<br />Food coloring (optional)<br /><br />1. pour the white glue into a platic bowl. If you poured out the entire bottle, put some warm water in there and shake it around to loosen up the remaining glue and pour it into the bowl also.<br />2. Add some food coloring to the glue if desired.<br />3. Mix 1/2 cup of warm water and a teaspoon of borax in a disposable cup. Stir it until it is as dissolved as you can.<br />4. Start stirring the glue mixture and slowly pour in the borax and water mixture a little at a time. Keep stirring and adding the borax mixture until it is the desired consistency or the glue has soaked up as much of the borax as it can.<br />5. Pull the mixture out and start kneading it. It's ready to be played with!<br /><br />When we made Dante's slime, we accidentally only added half a teaspoon of borax. His slime was much looser and stickier. It was fun to play with, but it stuck to your hands a little. We then added more borax water and it hardened up like the others.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3690261207/" title="IMG_2904 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3564/3690261207_678961fe6d_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="IMG_2904" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3691069874/" title="IMG_2905 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3623/3691069874_10069865db_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="IMG_2905" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3691074560/" title="IMG_2912 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3590/3691074560_ddb2ea339f_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="IMG_2912" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3690268307/" title="IMG_2915 by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3562/3690268307_d87ba11928_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="IMG_2915" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/sets/72157620998001122/">Click here if you want to see the entire set of pictures.</a>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442433177006330053noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-7216681298778799852009-05-15T10:32:00.004-06:002009-05-15T10:52:20.544-06:00Jousting!The kids' school had a medieval fair today and the <a href="http://www.knightsofmayhem.com/KOM/Knights_Home.html">Knights of Mayhem</a> came and did a jousting show for us. They threw spears from horseback, sliced cabbages in half with a sword from horseback, and then did a proper joust with solid lances. I'm glad I took today off.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3533941416/" title="Getting the kids excited by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3607/3533941416_aa18583974.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Getting the kids excited" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3533164371/" title="Jousting by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2406/3533164371_9117710d3d.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Jousting" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3533195315/" title="Sword Fighting by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2151/3533195315_ba5dd34369.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Sword Fighting" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3534057642/" title="IMG_2794.JPG by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2245/3534057642_cbdd037646.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="IMG_2794.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3533241719/" title="IMG_2796.JPG by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2023/3533241719_554e8ac080.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="IMG_2796.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3534059016/" title="Right Before Impact by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2389/3534059016_9ba3ec0c68.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Right Before Impact" /></a>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442433177006330053noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-54692093041250038322009-05-11T15:07:00.003-06:002009-05-11T15:22:59.122-06:00Painting, Planting, PotteryFirst off, I felt it was warm enough to paint the front door last week. I got the paint last fall, but it always seemed too cold to leave the door open for a whole day, so I put it off. I really like the way it looks, and I also painted the white frame around the door as well, since paint was peeling on it. Now the railing needs a coat of paint too, but I will get around to that later. Also, last spring, we got more bulbs from the local park. They plant all new bulbs every year and just let the public come and pick them up when they get pulled out. So, I went one morning and grabbed a bunch and planted them. Of course, I didn't know what they would look like, but I think they look really nice in my yard. Also, they all don't bloom at the same time, so I had red and yellow ones in bloom earlier, now there are a bunch of pink, darker pink, orange, white, and yellow ones in bloom now. <br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3519799003/" title="my newly painted door by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3584/3519799003_1ae9bec9a1.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="my newly painted door" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3520026413/" title="more tulips by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3632/3520026413_c1c85cd5ae.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="more tulips" /></a><br /><br />The fifth graders from all around Utah County and even some from SLC, all participated in a program called Hope of America last week. They split it into 2 days this year because there were 8000 kids participating. There were dances, videos, the chorus of 5th graders, and a pre-show to entertain us. It was really big and we had fun. Valerie was wearing yellow, and was in the first row above the blue row of kids. We found where she was sitting because she had her sunglasses tucked in the collar of her shirt and I could see them from where we were sitting. <br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3520027707/" title="Hope of America 2009 day 2 by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3372/3520027707_b66476da3b.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Hope of America 2009 day 2" /></a><br /><br />For the last month, Valerie and Scarlett were taking a pottery class where they were able to learn wheel turned pottery and other skills. They made a bunch of pieces and I'm supposed to pick them up tomorrow if I remember. Maybe I will post a picture of all their work when I get them. The class was put on by the Scera Arts Council and there was an Art show of all the kids taking drawing, painting and pottery. It was fun to go and see what other kids did as well as see our own artists. <br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3520038195/" title="Pottery class by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3342/3520038195_076ee44676.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Pottery class" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3520847686/" title="pottery class by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3374/3520847686_ef6dabcc54.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="pottery class" /></a><br /><br />The girls also had some art at a school art show last week as well. Valerie and Ella brought some pottery pieces they made at different classes and Scarlett had a painting she did at school exhibited there. There were different craft projects for the kids to do also, and the kids had fun doing the crafts.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00812748336965027099noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808937.post-3636996130462653592009-05-04T11:47:00.003-06:002009-05-10T20:34:54.696-06:00Scarlett's BirthdayScarlett had a fun birthday this weekend. I made omlettes for the kids in the morning, Scarlett opened some presents from family in the late morning, and then we had a friend party at <a href="http://www.jumponitparty.com/">Jump On It</a> in the afternoon. The kids had so much fun. One of Scarlett's friends wasn't able to come, so I used her pass to go jump with the kids. I guess I'm too old to jump on trampolines for an hour and a half, because my lower back and feet have been in pain ever since.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3494563988/" title="Pig by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3639/3494563988_9d4fb308ab_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Pig" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrklaw/3494397197/" title="Jump On It by mrklaw, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3550/3494397197_f4aeb6b716_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="Jump On It" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3520031937/" title="make a wish by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3637/3520031937_07b13e2bf6.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="make a wish" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3520031501/" title="Eating cake and ice cream by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3659/3520031501_3b8c3fdd18.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Eating cake and ice cream" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3520030387/" title="At the birthday party by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3580/3520030387_fd519b41c7.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="At the birthday party" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3520843276/" title="jumping by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3647/3520843276_da264844f6.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="jumping" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/goldbug121/3520034169/" title="jumping at Jump on It by goldbug121, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3305/3520034169_06b1348919.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="jumping at Jump on It" /></a>Johnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11442433177006330053noreply@blogger.com1
